George Harrison's Ouija fooled Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney exposed this week that his Beatles bandmate George once fooled him into believing he was talking to his mother (who died when he was 14).

Paul McCartney reported press this week that he, Harrison and John Lennon once used a Ouija board where they seemed to come into contact with his deceased parent.

We once did an Ouija board thing when we were kids," McCartney confessed. "We weren't really into all that, but somebody said, 'Let's do it', so we were touching the glass saying, 'Okay, nobody push it, okay?' so then, suddenly, it's moving!

"It spells, 'Congratulations... son' and we're going 'No!' and it spells 'Congratulations... son... number... one. In NME'."

NME meant New Musical Express , Paul McCartney instantly realized that it was a prank because his mother wouldn't have had a clue it was the top music magazine of the 1960's

"We were all, 'Oh, f**k off' and then there's George, you know, laughing - he's been pushing it all the time. Bad boy."

Paul Mccartney's Son Prepares EP

A singer with a familiar name James McCartney has confirmed details of debut EP.

Everyone struggles to live up their parent's legacy. However spare a thought for The Beatles offspring, who face the mountainous task of outdoing one of the most iconic groups in pop history.

Of the band's children, only Zak Starkey has enjoyed lasting success with stints in The Who and of course Oasis. A capable session drummer, Starkey has played on more successful records than any other Beatles child.

Now Paul McCartney's son James has decided to release his debut EP. Working on new material last year, James McCartney took his time in writing, recording and collecting the tracks.

Produced by his father, the pair used studios in the United States as well as Abbey Road. A friendly collaboration, James McCartney has decided to cover 'Old Man' - Neil Young's lament for passing youth.

An odd choice, the lyrics 'Old man take a look at my life / I'm a lot like you were' perhaps make more sense given the relationship between artist and producer. Alongside the cover, James McCartney has completed four new tracks.

'Angel', 'Glisten', 'My Friend' and 'Denial' were constructed during sessions last year. Set to be released on September 21st, the EP will be titled 'Available Light' and comes before a full album by the young songwriter.

Of course, James McCartney is a member of a musical dynasty. Uncle Mike McGear - real name McCartney - scored a number one hit in his own right as a member of comedy group The Scaffold.

Meanwhile, Paul McCartney recently received an honour from Barack Obama before playing a quick set in The White House. Show off!

James McCartney is set to release 'Available Light' on September 21st. Tracklisting:

'Angel'
'Glisten'
'My Friend'
'Denial'
'Old Man'

When Paul McCartney missed out on playing a gig for Obama

Sir Paul McCartney beatles legend, he was turned away by security guards at the White House when he arrived to play a gig for U.S. President Barack Obama last month.
McCartney, 68, had arrived at the iconic building in Washington, D.C. ahead of his scheduled performance for the president, but he and his band were not allowed through the strict security checks.
Guards on the gate eventually sent McCartney to a different entrance, but the delay left the musician fearing he would miss the gig.
"The security getting through of the White House (was memorable). For the rehearsal, we got through fine. But for the real gig, we were sort of not let in," the Daily Express quoted him as saying.
"At the gate we said, 'We're the entertainment.' He (the security guard) said, 'No, you'll have to walk around the other block.'
"It was heavy traffic, so we're going, 'Oh geesh. Wouldn't you just know it'," he added.

White House gig a 'biggie' calls Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney could call a performance a little club gig at the White House.
McCartney was awarded the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song in July, by the Libary an honor bestowed of Congress. Accepting it, McCartney performed in the East Room of the White House for President Barack Obama and the first family, who sat front row center.
Guests including Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, the Jonas Brothers, Jack White and others taking turns playing Beatles classics. Jerry Seinfeld summarized the choice of McCartney for the Gershwin simply as "duh."
PBS will broadcast the concert as part of its "In Performance at the White House" series on Wednesday (8 p.m. EDT).
rock 'n' roller for the 68 years old, the evening was clearly meaningful. He sang "Michelle" to Michelle Obama, adding that he hoped the president wouldn't punch him out. For the first time, he performed "Ebony and Ivory" live with Stevie Wonder. And he performed one of the more star studded singalongs of "Hey Jude," complete with the Obamas joining onstage.
McCartney was so fond of the concert which he called "a little club gig" that he has already rewatched it, and plans to again. Sir Paul took a moment out of his North American tour to reflect on his trip to the White House.

Mccartney's Guilt Over Sending Children To Private School

SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY's daughter STELLA feels guilty about sending her children to a "posh" private school because she's convinced her dad's decision to enrol her in a "normal" facility was "the best thing" he could have done for her.
The Beatles legend sent the fashion designer to a local government run institute because he wanted to make sure she remained grounded despite his superstar status.
Stella previously dubbed her father a "tight b**tard" for the decision, but now credits the musician for making the right choice.
The designer, who is recently expecting her fourth child, has decided to send her kids to an expensive private school, but she fears it will have a negative impact on them.
She tells Britain's Daily Mail, "If at any stage it looks like they're becoming total jerks and saying 'hello mummy' in posh voices, instead of running in and just being their awful selves, then you have to knock it on the head (stop it). It's one of my biggest internal struggles the whole schooling system in London and the fact that my kids are going to a posh school. It freaks me out...
"Going to the normal local comprehensive (school) was one of the best things that could have happened to me. You didn't boast about stuff otherwise you'd get beaten up. It was healthy to look how most people in the world live. That's why I freak out that my kids are doing that."

Paul McCartney's Tour Makes a Big Jump on TicketNews' Top Event Rankings in June

After adding more tour dates to his North American Up and Coming Tour, Paul McCartney jumped 10 spots for a second place finish on TicketNews' exclusive Top Event Rankings, as compiled from June 1-30.
Despite being outsold by the ever popular musical "Wicked," former Beatle Paul McCartney made a strong showing in June's rankings. McCartney added new tour dates during the month, including second appearances in Toronto and Pittsburgh. Ticket onsales for those dates started in late June, and the tour begins July 10 at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
Hip hop heavyweights Jay-Z and Eminem had the strongest debut of the month with a fourth place finish in the rankings. High demand for tickets caused the duo to expand their co-headlining tour from two nights to four, playing hometown shows in Detroit on September 2-3 and New York City on September 13-14.
Dave Matthews Band almost cracked into the Top 10 June event rankings. Ticket sales for DMB's spring and summer tour began in February and placed the band at number 15 in the month's rankings, although the band quickly dropped out of the Top 20 in following months. But a current announcement to go on hiatus in 2011 pushed DMB back into the May rankings at number 17, and now that their tour is underway, their ticket sales have surged and brought them to the 11th position on the list.

Spacey joins Paul McCartney for duet

On stage sir Paul McCartney was joined by Kevin Spacey to perform a duet at a star packed bash.
The pair performed Beatles classic Hey Jude in front of guests including Dame Judi Dench to whom the track was dedicated - and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.
The event, at Battersea power station, was to raise cash for the Old Vic theatre in London and marked its 192nd birthday.
Other familiar faces in the crowd included James Corden, Stephen Fry, Bryan Adams and Sir Peter Blake.
The select event marked a huge contrast to his vast show in London's Hyde Park on Sunday in front of an audience of more than 50,000.
He played a set of mainly Beatles songs including Long And Winding Road, And I Love Her and Got To Get You Into My Life, finishing with an encore of Get Back.
American Beauty star Kevin, the Old Vic's artistic director, persuaded Sir Paul to take part in the show, which also benefited the former Beatle's Meat Free Monday campaign.
The musician said afterwards: "It was a great pleasure to come and rock out for the Old Vicars. Such a great event for a good cause.
"I particularly like the outreach programmes they have for the youth around the area that encourage young kids.
"When Kevin strong armed me into doing it, as he does, we were only too pleased to show up and step up to the plate. We had a great evening, we rocked out and the crowd did too. We couldn't have asked for more."

Paul McCartney: Refuses to apologise for Bush gag

Sir Paul McCartney has refused to apologise for a joke he cracked on former president George W Bush during an appearance at the White House earlier this month.
The Beatles legend poked fun at the ex-leader's intellect as he became the first non American to collect the Gershwin Prize for 'Popular Song' from Bush's successor, president Barack Obama.
"After the last eight years, it's great to have a President who knows where the library is," Macca said.
By McCartney this comment infuriated top US politician John Boehner, who demanded McCartney make a public apology for the gag.
But the singer has insisted that his comments shouldn't be taken so seriously - as it was just "a joke".
The Daily Express quoted him as saying,"I said that on purpose. And now all this (criticism), like I'm going to care? It was a joke. Hello, anybody there? It's a joke".
"Has anyone ever watched Saturday Night Live? They joke about Bush all the time. As for a public apology, are they kidding?
He added, "I was in two minds whether to say it and I actually waited until the President had gone because I didn't want to embarrass him or his family. But hey, come on, it's rock and roll. It wasn't a religious meeting and I'm allowed to make jokes".

Pays on-stage tribute to Jimi Hendrix, Paul Mccartney

Sir Paul McCartney Former Beatles member Macca paid tribute to late Jimi Hendrix as he opened at the Isle of Wight festival.
Macca said that he was more than glad to know that the rocker was a big fan of The Beatles. The star entertained the audience with stories of his heyday with the Fab Four.
During one short note, he told the audience about his little known friendship with Hendrix in the 1960s. "I was really lucky to know Jimi and hang out with him a little bit in the 60s, he was a great guy," the Daily Express quoted McCartney as telling fans.
"The biggest tribute we had from him was we released 1967 album Sgt. Pepper on Friday and then I went to look him on the Sunday and he learned it; how cool was that for me? Very cool," he exclaimed.
McCartney also played part of Hendrix's track 'Purple Haze' during his massive 27 song set, which included hits such as 'Let It Be', 'Live And Let Die' and 'Hey Jude'.

McCartney speaking words of wisdom?

It takes character to withstand the rigours of adulation. Two men who know what it is to receive the worship of the world met in Washington recently, and the outcome was intriguing.

Last week, President Barack Obama welcomed Sir Paul McCartney, the most prolific of the Beatles, to the White House and awarded him with the Gershwin Prize, commemorating his magnificent musical career.

The presentation was the culmination of a star-studded event, wherein Obama helped McCartney croon his old ballad Michelle to the First Lady. Unless you happen to be a Gulf Coast resident who wishes Obama would call a halt to White House parties until the massive oil leak has been capped, I’m sure it was a touching moment. Maybe McCartney should have included Fixing a Hole in his playlist.

But Sir Paul couldn’t just Let it Be. After thanking Obama and the award’s sponsor, the Library of Congress, McCartney added, “After the last eight years, it’s great to have a president who knows what a library is.”

This little dig was, of course, the one-millionth instance of some bien-pensant coming up with a new way to call George W. Bush stupid. As it happens, Bush’s wife was a librarian, so one assumes that as a young caveman, the future president would at least pop by the place to drag her home to cook the day’s hunt.

But let’s say it’s true, and Bush is the most remarkable mouth-breather imaginable. So what? He will never hold political office again. Why sully a celebration by trashing a man who’s long gone?

Obama has made a habit of blaming Bush for everything from economic collapse to vapour lock, but unlike McCartney, he has practical reasons for doing so. To wit, the longer Obama can blame Bush, the longer he can avoid criticism himself.

Even so, in the whole history of humankind, scant few have ever been the objects of such global adoration as have Obama and Sir Paul. What, then, are they so cross about?

Obama could be forgiven for being frustrated, as his presidency has not been the success folks expected. As leader of the hopey-changey crusade that swept the world in 2008, he had nowhere to go but down.

McCartney referred to “the last eight years,” and it bears mentioning that Obama has been in the Oval Office for 17 months. In that time, America’s budget deficit has tripled, unemployment has hovered around 10%, and Obama’s approval ratings have plunged.

The Beatles, too, began to crack at the height of their success, including the 1966 comment by McCartney’s songwriting partner, John Lennon, that they were, “more popular than Jesus” (Lennon claimed the remarks were misinterpreted; the Vatican posthumously pardoned him in 2008).

Like many young people, I went through a “Beatles phase” (I have yet to experience an “Obama phase,” but anything’s possible), wherein I became a font of trivia about them. But one learns that everybody is fallible, celebrity notwithstanding.

These men, Obama and McCartney, have had it all. They have been to the mountaintop, yet they are still capable of bitterness. How is that possible? Perhaps, to paraphrase another sensation, Shakespeare, the fault is not in our stars, but in ourselves. Maybe success and happiness are states of mind, no matter what the world thinks.

The singer said the Liverpool group discussed a reunion on more than one occasion but could never all commit to the idea.

Paul McCartney: 'I hope Abbey Road studios can be saved'

Paul McCartney has said he hopes Abbey Road studios in London can be saved, after record label EMI announced plans to sell it.

The iconic studios, where The Beatles recorded much of their output (immortalising it on their 1969 album 'Abbey Road'), looks set to be sold to raise money for EMI in a bid to help clear the company's debts. However, McCartney told BBC Newsnight that he was aware of a joint "bid" from people associated with the studio, and added that he hoped they would be able to save it.
"I do know that there are a few people who have been associated with the studio for a long time who were talking about mounting some bid to save it," Paul McCartney explained.

He added, "I sympathise with them. I hope they can do something, it would be great. Obviously I've got so many memories there with The Beatles and it still is a great studio. So it would be lovely for someone to get a thing together to save it."

EMI, which is owned by private equity company terra firma, is reportedly hoping to raise £30 million from the sale to clear huge debts.

Sir Paul McCartney's former wife Heather Mills, pictured, has told Mandrake that Bea inspired children in the audience at a stage show to follow her in a series of dance moves Photo: EDDIE MULHOLLAND

Sir Paul McCartney's former wife Heather Mills has told Mandrake that Bea inspired children in the audience at a stage show to follow her in a series of dance moves.

"We were going to the Brighton run of Mamma Mia! and I told Bea that everyone would be dressed up in Seventies gear, so I put on a dark wig and went as Frida, and Bea was Agnes: we did the whole nine yards," said Mills, who overcame the loss of a leg to compete in the television show Dancing On Ice.

"But we got there and we were the only ones [dressed up]. I was mortified. Bea was like the Pied Piper. She got up and had all the little girls from the audience doing dance moves and singing along to songs in the aisles."

Mills, whose divorce from Sir Paul was so acrimonious that she threw a glass of water over Fiona Shackleton, his lawyer, in court, has no taste for The Beatles. "I'd much rather listen to Wagner or Shostakovich," she said at the opening of the Abba World experience at Earls Court.

"I love classical. When I was a girl my dad would always take us to listen to classical concerts."
She added, with typical modesty: "I've actually done a lot of work on promoting classical music behind the scenes. It's something I might bring to TV next year and aim it at children, to encourage kids to be turned
